Do most Muslims believe you can be granted eternal paradise
based upon good deeds alone?

Know, may Allah open your hearts to guidance, that Allah has not created us and this life that we witness for sport and play, but rather he has created this brief lifespan of ours to  test which one of us is best in deed. Allah says:
Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving. (Surah Al-Mulk:2)
And He has prepared a noble reward: An expansive paradise underneath which rivers flow,  for those who believe and strive hard in righteous deeds.  There can be no doubt that those who strove hardest with faith and good deeds after the prophets are the companions of the prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) Allah chose them to accompany the prophet because He liked what was in their hearts of noble characteristics. Not only because of their belief and sincerity not only because of their obedience to the prophet  (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) they also used to have hearts filled with fear and hope.

The Role of Reason and Intellect between Modern Western Paradigm and Islam PDF Print E-mail

Is the human intellect alone enough of a standard
for moral & spiritual guidance?

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Before I begin, I believe it is essential to note that the Utilization of al-Aql (human rationale/intellect) is divided between idaaree (jurisprudential order, administrative) and shar’i (divine revelation). When it comes to the use of al-Aql in the jurisprudential affairs of this world, it is more common that the reliance of al-Aql will be utilized more so than with regards to knowledge of religion, because religious truths and reality is not based on human rationale or the intellect but rather based on wahi (revelation). But with idaaree, the base supposition regarding it is that it is not constrained and can be utilized more freely UNLESS an action performed by the aql would violate a legal ruling. In the following article, the topic will be centered more so on the shar’i aspect of the use of al-Aql, since after all, the people who propagate the use of al-Aql are doing so in the realm of defining truth and falsehood, what is right and wrong, which is religious based, not jurisprudential based.

Non-Muslims have been living peacefully in Muslim countries for centuries.

[1] Non-Muslims used to lead a normal life in the Muslim state, without being harassed concerning their beliefs or scriptures. Indeed, at the arrival of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be on him, at Medinah, he included the following article in the document which represented a constitution for life in Medinah :

"... any Jew who lives under us is entitled to protection and equality... The Jews' religion is their own, and the Muslims' religion is their own... Our neighbours are equals, not to be molested or to be held sinful" [2]

Foundations for the Islamic Awakening pt.1 PDF Print E-mail

[Q]: What are the foundations that will enable the Islaamic world to arise again anew? [1]

[A]: That which I believe, is what has been reported in the authentic hadeeth – which is a clear answer to this question, and to those questions similar to it which are asked in our present time – and that is the statement of the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), “When you deal in 'eenah (a transaction involving usury), take hold of the tails of cows, become content with agriculture and abandon jihaad in the Path of Allaah, then Allaah will permit your humiliation and He will not remove it from you, until you return to your Religion.” [2] Thus, the foundation is the return to Islaam.

These days in which the world is in a panic over the Swine Flu pandemic there are a few places in which there is absolute calm... the Muslim world. As you know, Islam not only prohibits the eating of pork, but the sale and consumption of pigs and their by products. The swine flu most likely originated from a sick pig whose disease mutated into something that can be passed from human to human. Muslims are pretty pleased with the ruling from Allah right about now and others are are becoming interested in our stance. This flu outbreak is bound to have hellish repercussions on the Pork industry as demand for it will almost certainly plummet.

As such, I thought it a good time to reflect on the details concerning why Muslims don't eat pork as the topic must now be on a lot of peoples mind. Below is an answer to this question posed to Sh. Muhammad Salih Al-Munajjid.
