(Not a real book.)
A brief reflective look back, and a hopeful look forward.

We were sleeping in. The night before was the last night of the State Fair. That's when everybody goes because there's no entrance charge. We were exhausted from all the walking around and eating fried foods on sticks. Neither me nor my wife had to work till the afternoon that day so we were taking full advantage of the r and r. The phone rang. Still groggy, I answered it. It was Moms, frantic and practically yelling in my ear, "We're under attack! We're under attack!!

Khutbah Corner - The Invalidation of Actions: Is Steve Jobs a Muslim in Paradise? PDF Print E-mail

Do most Muslims believe you can be granted eternal paradise
based upon good deeds alone?

Know, may Allah open your hearts to guidance, that Allah has not created us and this life that we witness for sport and play, but rather he has created this brief lifespan of ours to  test which one of us is best in deed. Allah says:
Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving. (Surah Al-Mulk:2)
And He has prepared a noble reward: An expansive paradise underneath which rivers flow,  for those who believe and strive hard in righteous deeds.  There can be no doubt that those who strove hardest with faith and good deeds after the prophets are the companions of the prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) Allah chose them to accompany the prophet because He liked what was in their hearts of noble characteristics. Not only because of their belief and sincerity not only because of their obedience to the prophet  (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) they also used to have hearts filled with fear and hope.

The Role of Reason and Intellect between Modern Western Paradigm and Islam PDF Print E-mail

Is the human intellect alone enough of a standard
for moral & spiritual guidance?

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Before I begin, I believe it is essential to note that the Utilization of al-Aql (human rationale/intellect) is divided between idaaree (jurisprudential order, administrative) and shar’i (divine revelation). When it comes to the use of al-Aql in the jurisprudential affairs of this world, it is more common that the reliance of al-Aql will be utilized more so than with regards to knowledge of religion, because religious truths and reality is not based on human rationale or the intellect but rather based on wahi (revelation). But with idaaree, the base supposition regarding it is that it is not constrained and can be utilized more freely UNLESS an action performed by the aql would violate a legal ruling. In the following article, the topic will be centered more so on the shar’i aspect of the use of al-Aql, since after all, the people who propagate the use of al-Aql are doing so in the realm of defining truth and falsehood, what is right and wrong, which is religious based, not jurisprudential based.

Well, you can't say it's not getting attention. That's the whole purpose, right? Attention that will hopefully turn into ratings. If that is the goal here then mission accomplished. If you wanted to provide some more unrelatable characters to the (obviously not annoying enough) reality show soup, then "bravo". But if the intent of this show was to educate people on what it's like to live Islam as an American.... Epic fail.

Other Muslim critics of the show have already beat me in expressing outrage at

Abu Talha Dawood Burbank's Islamic translations are perhaps the most
widely circulated titles amongst the English speaking world.

Br. Abu Talha Dawood Burbank, one of the pioneers of the call to Ahl us Sunnah in the West and the translator of the most widely circulated books amongst the new generation of studious Muslims, has died.

Posts on various Salafi forums have been releasing details as they become available. According to what has come to us thus far, both Abu Talha and his wife (while on route to Makkah to perform Hajj) were on a bus that caught fire, and both of them were killed in the fire. The post gives some solace to the reader by quoting the glad tidings that Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alaihi wassallam) said:
